Requirements:
- Experience: 2 - 3 years
- Credentials:Driver’s license (Class 1 or A); Air Brakes Endorsement
- Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent
- Transportation/Travel Information: Valid driver's license, ability to travel for extended periods, able to travel overnight, able to drive manual transmission vehicle
- Security and Safety: Driving record check (abstract), Drug test, Criminal record check, Driver’s validity licence check, Bondable, Medical exam
- Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Physically demanding, strong attention to detail, able to perform repetitive tasks, able to sit for extended periods of time.
Tasks:
- Operate and drive primarily a semi-truck and flat deck trailer to transport goods and materials mainly on local routes and short interurban routes
- Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions;
- Load and unload goods
- Receive and relay information to central dispatch
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
- Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment
- Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle such as condition of equipment, and loading and unloading of cargo
- Tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo
- Address customers' complaints or concerns
- Documentation knowledge: Driver logbook, Bill of lading, Maintenance and repair reports, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), trip reports.
- Communication systems experience: Operate GPS (Global Positioning System) and other navigation equipment.
