Architectural Draftsman

Point Summary:

The Architectural Draftsman will be responsible for preparing detailed architectural drawings and construction documents for industrial and commercial projects. This role works closely with project managers, engineers, consultants, and site teams to ensure design accuracy, constructibility, and compliance with applicable codes and client requirements.

 

Job Duties:

  • Prepare detailed architectural drawings including:
    • Site plans
    • Floor plans
    • Elevations
    • Building sections
    • Wall sections and construction details
  • Develop and maintain 2D and 3D models using AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent drafting software.
  • Produce building permit and construction drawing packages.
  • Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines.
  • Ensure drawings comply with Alberta Building Code, municipal requirements, and client specifications.
  • Assist in the coordination and preparation of documentation for building permit submissions.
  • Review and incorporate consultant and vendor drawings into architectural sets.
  • Conduct site visits to verify dimensions and conditions; prepare accurate as-built drawings.
  • Support project managers and site teams with drawing clarifications and revisions during construction.
  • Maintain organized drawing records and version control.
  • Participate in internal design reviews to improve constructibility and efficiency.

 

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Drafting Technology, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of architectural drafting experience, preferably within the Western Canadian market.
  • Experience with industrial and commercial building design (manufacturing or design-build experience considered an asset).
  • Strong working knowledge of:
    • AutoCAD (required),
    • Revit (considered an asset),
    • Alberta Building Code and local permitting processes.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and detailing.
  • Experience coordinating multi-disciplinary building systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced environment.
