We are seeking an individual to join our team as a Designer/Project Coordinator. Our specialty is the execution of complex, multidisciplinary projects involving structural and mechanical trades. Our company supports clients in a wide variety of industries including but not limited to Agri-Food Processing, Electrical Transmission Structures, Meat Processing, Waste Management, and Infrastructure. SUMMARY
The Designer/Project Coordinator takes ideas, concepts, problems, or partially completed designs and will create models, drawings, and other outputs to efficiently communicate the design intention to downstream fabrication teams and field installation crews.
The position will also require other duties such as estimating, project management, QA/QC, and data collection such as field measurement. When possible, we keep the same team members on a project to lead it though the initial request/estimate thru planning and completion.
The position is based out of our offices in Sperling, MB. Monday to Friday starting at 7AM. OT and weekend work may be required on an infrequent basis. Travel may be required to perform site visits.
Our team utilizes the latest in technology such as 3d point cloud scanning solutions in order to execute our projects. The designer is expected to be capable and eager in learning new technology and is also expected to provide direction and recommendations to the company on how to improve.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with the Design and Project Management Team, and/or customers directly, to fully understand project requirements and customer needs
- Model and draft structural and/or mechanical components to solve the customer needs in accordance with the project requirements, codes and standards, and industry standards. Primarily modelling will be done in 3d however 2d drafting or even hand sketches remain useful in our industries.
- Submitting work packages and instructions for fabrication and construction projects. Provide supplementary instruction to downstream personnel as needed for efficient and quality execution.
- Communicate scope of work, intended installation procedures, and general direction to field teams as applicable.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to learn and take on new challenges
- Must be able to work as a member of a team
- Ability to read drawings and communicate graphically
- Experience in structural and/or mechanical disciplines in an industrial sector is an asset
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Post secondary education in a Drafting or Engineering Technologist Program is an asset but not required.
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor or AutoCAD is an asset
- Experience in Tekla Structures is an asset.
- Strong Organizational and Documentation skills/abilities
- General mechanical aptitude, knowledge of structural systems, and understanding of construction processes.
COMPENSATION:
- Salary to be on an hourly basis. Wage dependent on qualifications and experience in the range of $25-$35
