Position Overview
The Mechanic is responsible for performing safe, efficient, and high-quality preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on commercial transport vehicles and heavy-duty equipment. This is a mobile position based in the Nanaimo area, supporting fleet and equipment reliability through proactive maintenance and timely response to breakdowns. The role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to safety and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on commercial transport vehicles and heavy-duty equipment
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble components including engines, transmissions, braking systems, differentials, fuel and exhaust systems, cooling systems, clutches, and lubrication systems
- Maintain and repair air systems and related components
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair mobile machinery such as highway trucks, trailers, haul trucks, graders, bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and other heavy equipment
- Fabricate and weld parts as required
- Accurately complete and maintain work orders and service documentation
- Present a positive and professional image when interacting with team members, suppliers, and external contacts
- Work safely and efficiently in a mobile, field-based environment
Requirements
- Journeyman (Red Seal) Commercial Transport or Heavy-Duty Mechanic certification
- Ability to supply own tools
- Availability to work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with flexibility to adjust schedules in the future (including afternoon shifts or Tuesday to Saturday) based on operational needs.
- Previous experience with heavy civil equipment and commercial trucking/trailer industries
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
- Class 1 or Class 3 license (with air endorsement) considered an asset
- Welding ticket and/or welding experience considered an asset
- Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
